Pangu plans meeting to iron out issues

In an interview with Loop PNG General Secretary, Morris Tovebae, says the Party is still intact and is focused on next year.

“It’s a very crucial meeting that we have to resolve all those little issues and then we look forward to our preparation for the election,” says Tovebae.

One of the issues that will be raised is the appointment of special advisors to Pangu by Parliamentary Party Leader, Sam Basil.

One the appointees is Sir Ila Geno who happens to be the President of the PNG Constitutional Democracy Party.

Country Party President wants political parties law amended

Duwabane, in a statement said PNG has adopted the Westminster system of democracy, with its established precedents and procedure.

However, he said its implementation is lacking hence the various laws to give effect such as the OLIPPAC and Parliamentary Standing Orders.

“The O'Neill Government needs to introduce the amendments in the October and November Parliament session if it wants to see a fair and free elections and political and economic stability,” he said.

OLIPAC Laws must be amended

Nelson Duwabane, the President of Country Party  said, “with the 2017 Elections some months away, we want the Government to revise the OLIPPAC and the Organic Law on National and LLG Elections to ensure we have smooth elections.

“The Provincial Reforms have disabled good debate in the Provincial Assembly and the LLG. The governor and president are the chairman and speaker and there’s no Opposition to scrutinize the provincial and Local Level Governments.
