Digicel Play brings NRL excitement to communities

The Buka event, which was held at Bel Isi Park featured local band Model Zero who entertained residents and league fans.  

Kokopo Primary School oval was also full of activities on the day, with local group Mind Trip performing and a special appearance by the Rabaul Agmark Gurias led by Captain Albert Patak and Boas Ruru, providing some simple ball drills with the children and a game of footy.

Buka, Kokopo to revel with NRL in the Park

Last Saturday, 20 February, Madang residents celebrated the upcoming NRL season with a successful community fun day at Laiwaden Oval, whilst Buka and Kokopo residents have their turn this Saturday, 27 February.

Hundreds of Madang residents enjoyed a special guest performance by music sensation Nathan Nakikus and participated in fun footy games, where some participants received great prizes.

PNG music royalty join NRL in the Park

The entertainment provided at the launch also showcased PNG’s big name musicians who perform to the delight of Madang audience who had gathered since 12 noon to await the actual launch at 2pm.

Youths and those in the mood  dance swayed, twisted and turned as they danced  when current PNG music sensation Nathan Nakikus and his band belted out their popular numbers.

Madang Province’s popular music artist Demas Saul was chatting with this writer when he was spotted by Leonard Kania who hurried over for an embrace and chat。

One Kokoda attack accused a juvenile

One of the two accused who were arrested and charged for the Kokoda Track attack of two tourists on Jan 11 will have his case handled by the Juvenile court in Port Moresby.

NRL in the Park hits POM

There was plenty of entertainment that included the Digicel big screens that showed the highlights from last year's NRL season.

Games were held with prizes being given out to the children.

Local band TONIQ also belted out songs plus a performance from comedian Elton Kili.

The Stop N Shop Vipers also made a special appearance to help build up the excitement as Digicel Play prepare to broadcast NRL games this season to the rest of the country.

The NRL in the Park will continue to be held every weekend in different locations in the country over the next month.

NRL in the Park to kick off today in Port Moresby

To be held each weekend in a different location in the the country over the next month, NRL in the Park is a community initiative sponsored and organized by Digicel Play.

Today's event will start at 11am and will provide a variety of entertainment including meeting local rugby league stars, local bands and games for children.

It will be held at the Jack Pidik Park and will be officiated by NCD Governor, Powes Parkop.

CEO of Digicel PNG, Maurice McCarthy said event highlighted Digicel Play's commitment to the people of PNG.

Rugby league fans invited to Family Footy Fun in towns

Held each weekend in a different location over the next month, the NRL in the Park is a community initiative sponsored and organised by rugby league broadcaster Digicel Play, which aims to bring PNG’s favourite sport to the people.

The free event will provide a variety of live entertainment for all ages including meeting local rugby league stars, local bands, prizes, fun games and comedic personalities.
