Newcrest funds K600 000 medical equipment

The delivery included items such as thermometers, stethoscopes, and wheelchairs.

The support follows Newcrest’s recognition of the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on Provincial Health Authorities and their ability to respond to the pandemic, whilst maintaining routine health service delivery.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of the New Ireland Provincial Health Authority, Dr Joachim Taulo, thanked Newcrest Mining for continuing to support to the province.

Mine safety, the ultimate objective

This is the motto acknowledged by workers and most importantly, safety officers, at the Newcrest mine at Lihir, New Ireland Province. 

Health and safety superintendent, Leo Kola, said this during his presentation of a review into the safety of employees of the mine.

During the recent mining and petroleum conference, he said safety is the utmost objective that is observed by workers at the mine site.

Hidden Valley mine solely owned by Harmony Gold

The mine is located in the Morobe Province.

Newcrest Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Sandeep Biswas stated in the company’s September report that “Newcrest has completed the sale of its 50 per cent share of Hidden Valley to Harmony following receipt of South African Regulatory approval. The economic effective date for the transaction is 31 August 2016; accordingly the operational results shown are for the July-August period only.”

Newcrest is an Australian company and operates the Lihir gold mine in New Ireland Province.
