Newcrest Lihir (Lihir Gold Limited)

Organised by the Institute of Engineers PNG (IEPNG) recently at the Port Moresby Centre of Arts and Innovation, the event brought together engineers, academics, researchers, students and industry leaders.

The group interacted, discussed and showcased their contributions to service delivery, major projects and building resilient communities in Papua New Guinea.

In a statement General Manager of Operations, Chris Jordaan, said there was no coronavirus detected at the mine as speculated on social media but confirmed  that two employees have been placed in quarantine after presenting flu-like symptoms.

Rumors of the coronavirus being detected at the Lihir Gold Mine circulated overnight on social media.

It was claimed that an expatriate staff had been confirmed to have contracted the virus.

In a statement issued this morning General Manager of Operations, Chris Jordaan, said the rumors were not true.

In a community toksave that is being broadcasted on Lihir’s community radio station; Trupla FM, the regulator was specifically targeting public drivers who use the mine access road section between Kapit North and the Process Plant area.

MRA appealed to the drivers to always follow all traffic rules set by Newcrest Lihir because the road is within the operation’s SML.
