Tkatchenko pleased with world cup preparations

The World Cup tournament will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand from October 27-December 2, while PNG will host the Kumuls’ three pool matches in Port Moresby.

Tkatchenko said it is very well organised and he is pleased with the way the professional team and host committee are moving forward.

The host city, through the National Capital District Commission, has given K5m with the Government topping up with another K5m to host the event.

PNG to take on New Zealand at OFC U17 championship semis

The match is scheduled to kick off at Stade Mahina on 21 February at 7pm (February 22 at 3pm, PNG time).

The OFC championship is being hosted in Tahiti from February 11-24 with eight countries participating.

PNG made it through to the semi-final after defeating hosts Tahiti 2-1 on Saturday (PNG time).

PNG coach Harrison Kamake said his side’s mentality is what drove their success.

He added the boys had the fighting spirit towards the back end of the game and their defence contributed a lot to the overall play and it helped them in the end.

PNGDF today announced the promotion and appointment of three senior officers.

Lieutenant Colonels Anthony Oawa, Lt Col Andrew Ringrowe Dopeke and Lt Col Albert Palauva were promoted to the rank of Colonel. 

Col Oawa has been appointed as Chief of Personnel, Col Dopeke as Defence Attaché’ to the United Nations in New York and Col Palauva is Defence Attaché’ to New Zealand.

PNG ends friendlies on high note

They defeated Onehunga Mangere 2nd Division team 2-0 on Saturday, February 4, at Mt Smart, Auckland, following a 3-3 draw with Auckland Central Academy Football Club.

PNG’s two goals were scored 10 minutes to half time through Yagi Yasasa and Captain Ricky Wadunah.

It was a tough encounter early in the game but Yasasa broke the ice, scoring PNG's first goal 1-0 in the 32nd minute.

Just five minutes later, Wadunah scored PNG’s second goal (2-0) after a good build-up and combination play with Oberth Simon, who substituted Yasasa.

Morning rain delayed the scheduled start time, but the conditions improved enough for the ground staff to prepare McLean Park in Napier for a shortened match.

Practice facilities across the road from the ground were "bone dry" shortly after the rain stopped, according to New Zealand coach Mike Hesson, but the outfield at McLean Park failed to drain properly.

Ticket sales for RLWC2017 in PNG will soon be announced

The RLWC2017 is scheduled from October 26 to December 2 and will be co-hosted by Australia, New Zealand and PNG.

PNG will host national team Kumuls’ three pool matches against Wales (October 28), Ireland (Nov 5) and the USA (Nov 12).

RLWC2017 general manager commercial and marketing, Rohan Sawyer said the tournament will be the biggest event in the region during 2017.

An estimated 450,000 fans will attend the event which would be a tournament record.

PNG draws with Auckland 3-3 in friendly

The PNG side drew 3-3 with Auckland Central Academy Football Club in the friendly match on Saturday, January 28, at Mt Smart in Auckland, New Zealand.

Auckland Central Academy was too good, scoring three quick goals in the first 30 minutes of the first half.

PNG came back very strong in the dying minutes of the first half to score through Jonathan Allen and Yagi Yasasa within five minutes to bring the score to 3-2 at half time.

In the second half, PNG dominated the game but all attempts ended up off target.

Australia and New Zealand to pursue 'TPP 12 minus one'

The US-led 12-nation agreement was set to cover 40% of the world's economic output.

Pulling out of the TPP was one of Mr Trump's first executive orders and fulfils a long-held campaign promise.

Australia has already devised a name for a possible new agreement: TPP 12 Minus One.

The country's trade minister Steve Ciobo said Australia would not abandon the TPP just because it would require "a little bit of elbow grease" to keep it alive.
