Sinai Speaks on polling schedules

Electoral Commissioner, Simon Sinai in an interview regarding polling schedules, explained the status of polling schedules for the Momase, NGI, and the Southern regions, with corrections made with the Highlands region then signed off on June 29th and June 30th for the three other regions.

NBC Western to undergo major works

Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Timothy Masiu, said the Daru-based office will undergo immediate major maintenance after it was condemned.

“I met with the NBC Managing Director and Deputy Managing Director on Tuesday and was informed that funding was made available through the Public Investment Program (PIP) budget this month for this major renovation work to commence,” Masiu stated.

The Minister said the Daru studio building was condemned by the Provincial Health Authority in August 2019 but NBC was only given its notice in February 2020.

New NBC board members announced

NEC in its Special Meeting No. 1/2020 under NEC Decision No. 55/2020, revoked the appointment of the current NBC board members and appointed a new NBC board chairman and members of the board.

NEC revoked appointments of Timothy Tala as the Chairman of the Board and Jason Gilai as the Deputy Chairman of the Board.

NBC issues being addressed: Minister

Sam Basil made the statement following the condemnation of the NBC Morobe studio.

In a press conference on October 12th, the Communications Minister said all these NBC infrastructure throughout PNG existed since 1973 – two years before independence.

“Most of them are in a rundown state but I would also like to commend the NBC staff that over the years, they have provided excellent services and they continue to do so, but we are now looking at ways to address those issues,” Basil said.

​Department partners with TVWAN, NBC

Acknowledging this, the department of Community Development and Religion and UNICEF are partnering with TVWAN and NBC radio for a show dedicated to them.

This first of its kind public-private partnership saw the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding today between parties, after almost seven months of discussion.

The MoU paves way for the show, to be called Komuniti Toksave, which will run for the first 6 months as trial on a budget of K250,000.

NBC to tackle 'Bye Bye Birdie' in 2017, starring Jennifer Lopez

The network has announced that Jennifer Lopez will star in a live version of the Tony Award-winning musical "Bye Bye, Birdie" in 2017.

Lopez currently executive produces and stars in cop drama "Shades of Blue" on NBC.

NBC's production of "Bye Bye Birdie Live!" will be based on the 1960 Tony Award-winning Broadway musical that starred Dick Van Dyke as Albert Peterson and Chita Rivera as Rosie. Lopez will play Rosie.

Digicel Play partners with NBC for NRL coverage

During the 2016 season, three weekly NRL matches will be aired on NBC as well as Digicel Play. The partnership will also see the ANZAC Test and the very popular State of Origin series aired on both networks.

All remaining matches, including the PNG Hunters games and Digicel Cup, will be aired on Digicel Play.

Digicel CEO, Mr Maurice McCarthy, said Digicel recognises that Rugby League and the NRL has a passionate following in PNG.

Study: Presidential campaign coverage outpacing past

ABC, CBS and NBC have devoted 504 minutes to campaign news on their evening newscasts through last Friday, according to an analysis by the Tyndall Report, which studies the content of these programs. The previous high of 462 minutes at this point came in 2007, another year when no incumbent was running. Tyndall made no such measurements prior to the 1992 campaign.

Donald Trump doubles down on immigrant comments

The GOP businessman issued a statement Monday responding to critics in and out of his party. Trump called Mexican immigrants criminals and rapists as he launched his presidential bid last month.

Several businesses, including NBC, Univision and Macy's department stores, have cut ties with Trump.

In his new statement, Trump says "the Mexican government is forcing their most unwanted people into the United States." In many cases, he says, they are "criminals, drug dealers, rapists, etc."
