Support for Nawaeb’s Sub-Health Centre

 The medical supplies arrived from India last week and were sent directly to Torowa.

The 20 mattresses were donated by L&C Pacific Trading from the Chan family in Lae.

Member for Nawaeb Theo Pelgen whilst thanking the Chans for their kind gesture, said such initiatives by the business community in Lae are greatly appreciated.

“The patients at Torowa are being served and admitted to beds only, therefore this assistance will go a long way to provide a better health service.”

Trainees assist Nawaeb health

Local MP Theo Pelgen, in a media statement, said the MOU, which will be drafted later, would capture the arrangement for more medical students to actively serve in health facilities in Nawaeb.

MP Pelgen was at Situm Health Centre recently, attending to the completion of training for several medical students.

The trainees were on medical practicum for the last four weeks at Situm Health Centre and contributed immensely to the functions of the facility, including providing manpower and resources to service and assist the sick.

Vehicle for community work

The vehicle was released to carry on the work of the people in areas that are often neglected and not taken seriously as important.

Nawaeb MP Theo Pelgen said the vehicle is multi-purpose since it can cater for school children as well.

“Nawaeb rural students attending the high and secondary school will be transported when on holidays from a designated point of pick up,” he said.

“This is intended to relieve the parents of burden to transport them to and from school holiday period, “he said

Nawaeb launches community policing boats

Internal Security Minister, Peter Tsiamalili Jnr, took the honour to officially launch the boat at Voco Point in Lae.

The Minister praised the efforts of Nawaeb District Development Authority through the chairmanship of Nawaeb MP, Theo Pelgen.

“The boat will enhance police operations along the coastline of your people and this is an innovative concept that will instil law and order to the community,” Tsiamalili stated.

Nawaeb officials call for funding

Furthermore, the officials are having problems with logistical support, outlining that lack of funding is creating a lot of issues.

The Assistant Returning Officer for Nawaeb Urban, Tawas Nasinom, said this election is giving them “a lot of headaches”.

“Election officials will soon be forced to take goods and services on credit from small businesses in the districts they are in,” he stated.

Nasinom further said officials on the ground were not consulted in relation to election costings.

New inclusive classroom for Nawaeb

The school, which was established in 1964, has a new 2-in-1 building fitted with a ramp instead of stairs.

Nawaeb MP, Kenny Wenge, stressed on the need to prioritise education during the opening of Hobu Primary School’s 2-in-1 classroom, a grandstand and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene facilities.

Wenge applauded the design of the new classroom, saying those with impaired mobility can now learn in a classroom with their able-bodied peers.

Wenge highlighted that education needs to be made accessible and inclusive.

15 years for manslaughter in Lae

The Lae National Court sentenced Hanson Yatzat after he admitted to stabbing Moses David in the chest on 3 March 2017, which resulted in his death.

The incident took place at the Madang block in Poaba in Lae between 6 and 7pm.

Yatzat was at a black market that evening when the deceased, who was under the influence of alcohol, approached him, hugged him and asked for a cigarette.

Annoyed with him, he pushed the deceased away after he asked for a cigarette.
