Lae FC confident to defend title

He said the potential is there, but it is the players that will have to establish combination amongst themselves to discover themselves and run to reclaim the National Premier League title. 

Lae City FC started their 2023 NPL campaign slow with a handful of new young players joining the team. The new recruits are still finding their foot in the team working on building their combination, which obviously impacted the result of their game. 

Round seven of NPL completed

To the Southern Conference, Papaka FC def. Gigira Amoana FC 2-1, MRDC Hekari United FC def. Admiralty FC 2-1 and PRK Erema Gulf FC def. PKA Rapatona 3-1.

Across to the Northern Conference, Markham FC def. Bulolo FC 3-0, Nawaeb FC def. Lahi United FC 1-0 and Welgris Morobe United FC def. Laiwaden FC 5-0.

In the women’s division games, PRK Laloki United FC forfeited Valley Strikers and MRDC Hekari United FC def. NCDFC 4-0.

In the Southern Conference in Port Moresby, PRK Erema Gulf FC def. Papaka FC 2-0, Gigira Amoana FC def. Admiralty FC 1-0. The third match between MRDC Hekari United FC and PKA Rapatona FC was cancelled.

Up to the Northern Conference, Markham FC def. Nawaeb FC 1-0, Welgris Morobe United FC def. Bulolo FC 4-0 and Lahi United FC def. Laiweden FC 3-2.

To the first game of the women’s in the Southern Conference, MRDC Hekari United FC def. PRK Laloki United FC 5-1.

Erema force 2-2 draw with Hekari

At the PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby, Papaka FC def. Admiralty FC 5-1, PKA Rapatona FC def. Gigira Amoana FC 2-1 and PRK Erema Gulf FC held Hekari United FC to a 2-2 draw. These were the results for the Southern Conference.

To the Northern Conference, Nawaeb FC def. Bulolo FC 2-1, Lahi United FC def. 3 Welgris Morobe United 3-2 and Laiweden FC def. Markham FC 4-3.

In the Southern Conference matches played at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby, Hekari United FC def. Admiralty FC 2-1, PKA Rapatona FC drew with Erema Gulf FC nil all and Papaka FC def. Gigira Amoana FC 7-1.

To the Northern Conference matches at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium in Lae, Laiwaden FC def. Bulolo FC 1-0, Markham FC def. Lahi United FC 2-1 and Nawae FC def. Morobe United FC 1-0.

In the Southern Conference matches played at the Sir John Guise Stadium, Papaka FC def. PRK Erema Gulf FC 3-2, Hekari United FC def. PKA Rapatona FC 6-0 and Gigira Amoana FC def. Admiralty FC 11-0.

To the Northern Conference at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium, Morobe United FC def. Bulolo FC 7-0, Nawae FC def. Markham FC 1-0 and Lahi United FC drew with Laiwaden FC 1-1.

Seven-a-side tournament launched by Football Federation of PNG

According to President, John Kapi Natto the competition is more of a pre-season to gather interest from teams for the upcoming National Premier League competition.

To be spearheaded ahead by the Northern and Southern Conference, the tournament will run from March 17-18.

The Northern Conference will host their matches in Lae, while matches for the Southern Conference will be played in Port Moresby.

Kapi Natto said this is the first step forward for the newly established federation to run its competition for the 12 soccer affiliates in the country.
