Valid passport for eligibility

The NOCSI Board member and National Selection and Justification Chair, Morris Maitaki, emphasized the importance of this new eligibility rule during a recent Sol2023 Talk-back show held at SIBC.

Maitaki highlighted that being a member of Team Solomon is a crucial requirement for participation in the Pacific Games, and to achieve this status, athletes must be valid citizens holding a passport. Even though Solomon Islands is the host nation for the Games, they are not exempt from this stringent requirement.

HP staff receive OSEP certificates

Twenty of those were Port Moresby-based while the remaining four where from the Momase region office.

Half the staff received their Sports In Communities (SiC) Administrators certificates while the rest received their Community Coaches & Officials certificates (CC&O).

HPS PNG Director, Aaron Alsop said the organisation supported the concept of OSEP being delivered in PNG through the partnership with the Oceania National Olympic Committees and the PNG Olympic Committee (PNGOC).

​Olympic Day celebrations end in Vabukori

During the week-long celebration, which started on Monday, the National Olympic Committee (NOC) team visited some schools in the city, giving talks and educating them about sport and the Olympics.

 

Some former Olympic athletes also accompanied the team to present inspirational talks. Among the group was a former sprinter representing PNG in the Athens Olympics in 2004 and again in Beijing in 2008, Mae Koime.
