Hunters went down to Norths Devils 32-18 in round four of the Queensland Intrust Cup in front of 5148 supporters at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.

Marum admitted that it was undisciplined play from the team, especially during the first half and early in the second half, giving away four penalties.

“We got off to a bad start and we allowed four easy tries,” said the coach.

“Our kicks at the end of the sets didn’t go well, allowing the Devils to score 12 points in less than five minutes.

General Manager of the NFS, Lee Pokarop said the Memberships will allow the general public to be a part of the headline events this year in a manner never experienced in PNG before.

He said these events are:

-The PNG Hunters Intrust Super Cup Regular Season – 11 Games, and potential home finals matches.

-The annual Prime Minister’s XIII fixture.

-The 3 X Rugby League World Cup Games featuring our very own PNG Kumuls.

-The “One People” music Concert that will feature premium local and international artists.

The Paul Barrière Trophy will tour PNG in months leading up to the tournament. 

The RLWC2017 is scheduled from October 26-December 2 and will be co-hosted by Australia, New Zealand and PNG.

RLWC2017 tournament partner, Oil Search, will take part in significant programs within the community with RLWC over the next 10 months.

This includes the Paul Barrière Trophy tour across the country where Oil Search will have the naming rights to the trophy tour.

The RLWC2017 is scheduled from October 26-December 2 and will be co-hosted by Australia, New Zealand and PNG.

PNG will host national team Kumuls’ three pool matches at the National Football Stadium (NFS) against Wales (October 28), Ireland (November 5) and the USA (November 12).

RLWC2017 general manager commercial and marketing, Rohan Sawyer, said it’s an exciting year for rugby league in PNG.

Sawyer thanked the Government and Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko for their support of RLWC2017.

This was announced today by RLWC2017 general manager commercial and marketing, Rohan Sawyer.

NFS, formerly Lloyd Robson Oval, recently underwent a two- year redevelopment program ahead of the country hosting the 2015 Pacific Games and 2016 FIFA Under 20’s Women’s World Cup.

The stadium hosted a sold-out PNG Kumuls versus Australian Prime Minister’s XIII match in September 2016.

Funding for the stadium is from a Public Private Partnership of K120 million through the National Government and Curtain Brothers.

Sports Minister Justin Tkachenko said the outstanding K40m is the Government’s component of making sure that stadium is complete.

The Government is now working with different companies to get them to sponsor the finishing product of the stadium under a tax credit scheme.

Tkachenko revealed that the country is going through a tight economic situation and at this point stadiums are not something that is prioritised to be built or funded.

The 29-man squad was made public this afternoon at a press conference at the National Football Stadium by Hunters coach, Michael Marum.

The new faces that make up the Hunters for this year's campaign in the Intrust Super Cup competition are: Anderson Benford, Radley Bawa, Eddie Dafa, Junior Rop, Karo Kauna Jnr, Moses Meninga, Nixon Put, Wawa Paul and Wellington Albert.

Marum says 14 players are continuing on from the 2016 season while the other six, including former captain Israel Eliab, Lawrence Tu'u and David Loko, are making their return to the side.

Minister for Sports, APEC and National Events, Justin Tkatchenko, confirmed this, saying that the trustee of the National Football Stadium are already talking with the Rugby World Cup to expand the two sides of the stadium.

This will bring up the capacity from 15,000 seats to 20,000 before October next year.

“We see that the demand for people to watch the game will be so high therefore, we are negotiating to expand the seat by another 5,000 to get enough people in to watch,” Tkatchenko said.

They defeated the United States 1-0 in front of a crowd of 8098 supporters.

Japan's victory goal was scored by forward Mami Ueno three minutes to full-time.

After over 20 attempted goals through the 86 minutes of play, Ueno scored in the penalty box, sweeping a clear shot from the right and finding the top left corner of the net.

This was Ueno's fifth goal overall in the tournament.

Japan, in white and blue, dominated the game, having 63 percent ball possession.
