Improved training for Enga teachers

The training was conducted in Wabag and offered teachers a valuable professional development opportunity that focused on using the Bilum Books Training guides to implement the Department of Education's Standards-Based Curriculum.

The Provincial elementary coordinator, Simon Kakeyo, noted that the training will equip early grade teachers with the necessary teaching skills for phonics, reading comprehension, writing, listening, and speaking in English.

Schools need to adhere: Official

Assistant secretary of early childhood education, Michael Mera, outlined that upon request by the Provincial Education Board (PEB), a school inspector will visit the proposed institution to see whether it has complied with the minimum operating standard.

Some of the factors that will be taken into consideration include infrastructure, the general environment, catchment areas and teachers.

The inspector then presents the report to the PEB, who will make a provincial recommendation to the general education division within the education department.

Improved education quality in NCD

The signing of an MOU between the National Department of Education and the NCDC this week is a relief.

NCD Governor, Powes Parkop has expressed that it is a relief as the groundwork in the form of an MOU was signed in 2016 for the former education minister, now minister for HERST, Nick Kuman. He reassured the Department of Education that the partnership will continue.

Gr 12 marks leaked by a selector: Depts

In a joint statement, the National Department of Education and the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology say they have jointly commenced investigations and will refer the matter to police.

Furthermore, they have apologised to parents, guardians and relatives of students whose marks were leaked.

“We sincerely regret that this has happened,” they said.

“Nobody has any legal or ethical right to distribute and or disseminate such confidential information to the public.

Workshop set for Cervical Cancer Vaccination NCD pilot project

The project was launched on March 10, by the National Department of Health Secretary, Pascoe Kase in partnership with the National Department of Education and the Rotary Club of Boroko.

As a follow up to the launch, PNG Cancer Foundation will be hosting a workshop on the cervical cancer vaccination and the NCD Pilot Project at the end of this week on Friday, March 17, at the Health Services, Standard Branch.

Central hosts own secondary school career expo

The event will be organised by standards and guidance division of the National Department of Education, supported by the Central Provincial Government.

Governor for Central Province Kila Haoda says the expo will be an annual event where students from NCD and Central would come together to seek assistance from exhibitors, from tertiary institutions and other colleges, on how to fill in their school leaver forms (SLF).
