K20,000 boost for Mt Hagen Show

Speaking at the presentation, BSP Mt Hagen’s Deputy Branch Manager, John Tomba Jnr, said: “Our contributions to such cultural and tourism events ensures such shows are sustained, so our cultures and traditions are maintained, and we use the opportunity to showcase our PNG people, our products. Our BSP staff will be available at the show to assist with customer enquiries and account opening.

Tourists cancel following Mendi unrest: Show committee

Chairman of the Mt Hagen Show Committee, John Bonny, said the tourists cancelled their plans after learning of the election-related violence in Mendi, Southern Highlands.

The spill-over effects of the election-related riot in Mendi Town is impacting other Highlands provinces as well.

While Western Highlands Province is gearing up for its 59th annual cultural show, its tourist numbers has dropped.

Digicel brings in singsing groups for Mt Hagen Show

The annual event, which will be held on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 August at the original Kagamuga show grounds, is expected to welcome hundreds of celebrating locals.

General Manager for Highlands Region Arthur Yen presented a K10, 000 cheque to the Mt Hagen Cultural Show Committee at the Digicel Hagen office on Thursday August 11 on behalf of Digicel.

The K10,000 will help fund 10 traditional singing groups to perform at the Mt Hagen Show next weekend. The groups will perform a variety of culturally significant songs and dances.
