Mozambique 'tuna bond' scandal: Ex-President Guebuza's son on trial

Ndambi Guebuza, son of former President Armando Guebuza, and the others face charges of blackmail, embezzlement and money laundering.

They have not yet commented on the charges.

Mozambique's biggest corruption scandal led donors including the IMF to cut funding for the country and the economy to collapse.

The trial is being held in a large canvas tent in the grounds of a maximum-security prison in the outskirts of the capital, Maputo.

Flooding feared as heavy rains hit Mozambique

Cyclone Kenneth struck with winds of 220km/h (140mph) barely a month after a previous cyclone killed hundreds and devastated large areas.

Heavy rain continued to fall on Friday, raising fears of more floods.

Authorities have advised people to move to higher ground amid concern that thousands may be trapped in remote villages.

Mozambique was still recovering from Cyclone Idai, which killed more than 900 people across three countries in March.

'Massive disaster' in Mozambique and Zimbabwe

The region has been hit by widespread flooding and devastation affecting Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi.

Mozambique's President Filipe Nyusi has called it "a humanitarian disaster of great proportion".

He said more than 1,000 people may have been killed after the cyclone hit the country last week.

Cyclone Idai made landfall near the port city of Beira in Sofala province on Thursday with winds of up to 177 km/h (106 mph).
