Moresby North-East will be on lockdown

This was the directive given by the NCD metropolitan superintendent, Ben Turi, to officials and scrutineers of Moresby North-East.

Turi said just like Moresby North-West, all officials and candidates’ scrutineers will remain in the venue to complete elimination count before declaration and written of writs tomorrow.

After recent delays and false allegations, he called on them to work diligently and transparently.

"I warn any officials to refrain from cheating and putting ballot papers in boxes they shouldn't be in."

Mald withdraws bid to stop counting

Mald instructed his lawyers to file the case in the Waigani National Court last week.

His lawyer however, withdrew the application and case when it went before the court. This was because events had overturned and the disputed box was already counted at the time the subject of the case went to court.

The interim relief he was seeking in the application was for the court to stop the counting for one box from the Kinakon rain tree polling area at 12-Mile, outside Port Moresby.

Candidates urged to send ‘decent’ scrutineers

Senior Sergeant Tepias Map said this today before counting for the Moresby North-East seat resumed.

Map told candidate John Kaupa and others this morning that scrutineers must be decent and must work alongside election officials; not disrupt the process.

He said there were many disruptions by scrutineers, which have delayed counting.

He also called for scrutineers not to verbally assault and intimidate counting officials and Electoral Commission staff.

Meanwhile, the candidates are expected to identify their scrutineers before they enter the counting venue.
