Miss Pacific Islands Pageant (MPIP) 2017

Pacific beauties set to contest

The contestants met for the first time for the 31st Annual MPIP 2017 with an official gathering in Nadi, Fiji, recently.

CEO of the Samoa Tourism Authority, Papali’i Sonja Hunter, said: “The Miss Pacific Islands Pageant, since its inception in 1985, was established primarily to foster, expand knowledge and share intelligence and talents of our young Pacific ladies.

“The Miss Pacific Islands has always been known as a ‘Pageant with a Difference’.”

MPIP week in full swing

The annual pageant selects a young woman to be the cultural ambassador for the country on a regional and global platform.

Securing 6 contestants in the last months, the pageant week officially opened yesterday with a service at the St John's Anglican Church, downtown Port Moresby.

First public activity today was a cultural visit to Koke, Hanua and Boera villages to meet local women and see the art of clay pot making.

The program continues over the week with the pageant contestants making other public appearances.

‘I have a story to tell’

Pawih has been introduced as the second contestant to enter the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant (MPIP) 2017.

This step by Pawih is not only something new for her, but the bravest she has ever taken.

Taking on the title, Pawih announced that she aims to use the platform to empower survivors of child abuse, just like herself.
