Former head teacher arrested

The duo were arrested and charged by Madang’s Transnational Crime and Investigation Unit after the new head teacher of Kovon Primary School, in Kovon LLG, Middle Ramu District, provided information to police, supported by the school’s board. 

It was alleged that the suspects conspired with a bank teller to withdraw K10,000 from Kovon Primary’s account on Monday, February 12th, 2024.

Police apprehended the suspects in Madang town on Thursday, February 15th, at 3.45pm.

They confessed to the crime during interrogation at the Jomba investigation office.

Former finance manager arrested

Geita Doura, 43, of Gabi Village, Hanuabada was arrested on July 6th 2018 and charged with 11 counts of Misappropriation of Funds, totalling K419,927.42

He was further charged with 11 counts of False Pretence, five counts of false accounting and two counts of Money Laundering.

The funds belonged to the Ombudsman Commission of Papua New Guinea.

Doura allegedly committed the offence between March 19th 2012 and August 6th 2014.

Woman stands trial next week over cancer funds

26 year old Margaret Ani of Pari village, NCD, will stand trial from next week Monday. The two day trial was supposed to start today however that has been deferred to November 9.

Among those expected to give evidence during the trial is Ani’s immediate boss, Dadi Toka Jnr who was the president at that time.

Ani was committed by the District Court on May 13 to stand trial for her alleged offence in 2012.

Magistrate Cosmos Bidar in his ruling on May 13 said Ani had sufficient evidence against her with a total of 72 counts.
