UPNG interim council remains intact

This was confirmed by UPNG’s National Academic Staff Association today.

Members of NASA have set the record straight following an article claiming that members of the interim council have been sidelined.

The interim council, comprising of acting vice chancellor Dr Kenneth Sumbuk, chancellor Jeffrey Kennedy and pro-chancellor Jerry Wemin, remains in power until the National Executive Council endorses new appointees.

TIPNG calls for transparency in UPNG appointments

Anti-corruption watchdog, Transparency International PNG (TIPNG), says it is in the public interest that serious allegations of undue influence at the highest level are dispelled.

“This will also allow the start of the UPNG academic year to be returned to normalcy and ensure the education of UPNG students is not jeopardized. Failure to demonstrate that tests of proper and fit character were applied in the recruitment of the interim council will only exacerbate the anger on campus,” said TIPNG.
