PNG mining minister applauded

Opening the forum in Port Moresby, Minister Tuke highlighted the wide range of challenges the sector faces, and the important work being undertaken by APEC to address these, in collaboration with industry.

In his keynote presentation, international mining expert John Strongman urged APEC Ministers to implement the right fiscal, regulatory and legislative settings to attract global investors.

Minister will not intervene in OTML sacking

He said the sacking of these workers is a management issue.

“I understand that it is grievances displayed by employees. They have a channel to go through,” stated Tuke.

Minister Tuke says Ok Tedi Mining Limited has set guidelines and regulations on how to deal with issues that arise and both parties have to be guided by those processes.

Meanwhile, OTML says it will not make any comments or statements on the matter.

First ever service for mining ministry

The dedication service was attended by all staff of the Mineral Resources Authority and the Chamber of Mines and Petroleum.

During the event, Mining Minister Johnson Tuke urged them to serve Papua New Guineans diligently every day.

“We must serve our people diligently and be faithful in what we do,” he said.

“Regardless of what position you take in the company, we all must work together and focus on our main visions and goals.”
