Third Media Education Seminar

The seminar theme ‘Listen. Do everything with LOVE’ focused on equipping the students with basic knowledge on how to use audio and video to bring about positive and inspiring messages to others.

The first session presented by Isabella Saleu, focused on the introduction to audio and jingles, which enabled the young minds to understand the different types of audio and how jingles are used in broadcasting.

Students Focus On Print Media

With the theme ‘Listen. Do everything with Love,’ the seminar was held recently at a beautiful setting of the Caritas Business College and hosted by the Social Communications Commission of the Catholic Bishops Conference (CBC SOCOM). 
 
Fifty-six students were present for the program that had sessions on news writing, the 5W’s + 1H and school news bulletin boards. 
 

MSI Holds Communication Seminar

The seminar with the theme was ‘To be Prophetic Communities in Living Our Mission and Spirituality’ engaged 28 Religious from the MSI Congregation, on Wednesday 5th January 2022, at the MSI Provincial House, Boroko.
SoCOM personnel of CBCPNGSI namely Abigail Seta, Isabella Saleu and Nigel Akuani facilitated the Media seminar.

An inspiration for students

The three-day program had over 50 participants consisting of students from seven schools with their teachers and animators.

The program commenced with interactive games, evening prayer and rosary. 

The first session animated by Fr Ambrose Pereira sdb entitled ‘The Problem Tree’ enabled the participants to reflect on the issues they face in life today. 

“It is a way of helping the students take a closer look at the difficult issues they face and search for solutions to them,” he said.

Understanding print media

The purpose of the Media Education Seminar was to give students a critical understanding of the media and an ability to enable them to creatively use the media to spread positive stories.

To be good journalists, you have to know the elements of writing articles was the taken home message delivered to the students by Catholic Bishops Conference’s  Secretary for Communication, Fr Ambrose Pereira.

The basics of journalism, including the 5Ws and 1H rule (who, what, when, where, why and how) were taught and examples were used to portray the components of writing news articles.
