Henderson hails Liverpool 'heart'

Goals from Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Daniel Sturridge gave Jurgen Klopp's side a stunning and fully deserved victory in Sunday's clash.

The Gunners, who have now lost by four or more goals on four occasions away to Liverpool in the Premier League, failed to register a shot on target in what was a listless performance that prompted some travelling fans to call once again for manager Arsene Wenger's sacking.

Speaking afterwards, Henderson appeared to underline the difference between the teams when he highlighted the importance of Liverpool's work rate.

Klopp: Liverpool will sign quality

Liverpool have been ravaged by injuries in the Premier League this season, with stars Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana, Jordon Henderson and Joel Matip all spending time on the sidelines.

Klopp has lamented the number of injuries in 2016-17 and the German manager knows Liverpool must be active in the transfer market as they juggle the addition of another tournament – the Merseyside club currently occupying the fourth and final Champions League qualifying berth heading into the final game of the season.

Liverpool lose Coutinho to injury

The midfielder went to ground in the fifth minute following a challenge from Watford defender Adrian Mariappa and was immediately seen clutching his right thigh.

Coutinho received medical treatment on the pitch, but was unable to shake off the knock having returned to the field of play and was replaced by Adam Lallana in the 13th minute.

The 24-year-old was subsequently pictured on the Liverpool substitutes' bench with an ice pack and heavy strapping around the injured area.

Mane to miss rest of season

The Senegal international sustained the injury in the 3-1 victory over Merseyside rivals Everton at Anfield on Saturday and was replaced in the 57th minute by Divock Origi.

Earlier this week, Mane posted a picture of himself on social media wearing a knee brace and Klopp has admitted the 24-year-old will not feature again this campaign.

Reds beat Gunners to go third

The Gunners, who started Alexis Sanchez on the bench for tactical reasons, were 2-0 down at half-time after goals by Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Sanchez, on as a half-time substitute, set up Danny Welbeck to reduce the deficit but a stoppage-time strike by Georginio Wijnaldum sealed victory for Liverpool.

They move up to third having played two games more than fourth-placed Manchester City, who face Sunderland on Nissan Super Sunday.

Long fires Saints to Wembley

The Republic of Ireland international struck deep into stoppage-time at Anfield, seconds after Divock Origi had a penalty appeal declined, as last season's runners-up were denied a return to the Wembley showpiece.

Just as they had in the first leg, Southampton spurned a host of chances to put the tie to bed, but it proved immaterial as their defence - missing the injured Virgil van Dijk - became the first side in League Cup history to reach the final without conceding a goal.

Coutinho signs new Reds deal

Sky sources understand the Brazil international has penned a deal that runs until 2022 and that no release clause has been inserted into the contract.

Coutinho, who recently returned from a six-week lay-off with an ankle ligament injury, has scored six goals in 18 appearances for Liverpool so far this campaign.

"I would like to thank everybody at the club, first of all," Coutinho told the club's website.

Liverpool 2-0 Leeds United: Ben Woodburn makes history as Reds reach semi-final

Welcoming Leeds to Anfield for their quarter-final clash, the Reds took on an in-form Championship outfit, with Garry Monk’s side sitting fifth in the English second tier after 18 games.

Liverpool beat West Brom to move second

Jurgen Klopp's team dominated at Anfield and took the lead as Sadio Mane steered in Roberto Firmino's dinked cross.

Philippe Coutinho added a second when he picked up the ball from Mane, cut inside Baggies defender Gareth McAuley and shot into the bottom corner.

A two-goal victory would have taken Liverpool top, but McAuley denied them first place when he smashed in a late goal after the hosts failed to clear a corner.
