Lae Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Lae private sector dissatisfied

The first-of-its-kind immigration awareness session covered general information on immigration policies, work permits, the APEC Business Travel Card and the newly-launched sponsor portal.
Chemcare Group HR Manager, Ritha Maisen-Maken, said the session did not sufficiently cover major areas of concerns in relation to the private sector.

“It would be good if the work permit team had come out as well because in this session, it was more immigration,” she said. “If the work permit team came out, that would’ve been a really good one session for everyone.”

Redeveloped Lae market briefing hosted

This morning, the Lae Chamber of Commerce and Industry facilitated a breakfast session to update its members on the temporary facilities that will house vendors on Markham Road, next to Air Niugini, while construction begins in early 2024 for the two-storey facility.

Engaged to manage the design, construction and commissioning of the project is the Economic and Social Infrastructure Program (ESIP).

Lae Soccer Women Acknowledged

The seven women, including team captain, Meagen Gunemba, were warmly welcomed by the Lae business community at the Lae International Hotel, where they were applauded for elevating the nation and especially Morobe. They fought tooth and nail to bring the OFC nations cup home.

Captain Gunemba, her six teammates and coach Edna Thomas were given a rousing welcome at the Lae International Hotel poolside before they were ushered into the conference room by a singsing group.

Chamber Anticipates Lae Congestion

A public rally is scheduled to be hosted at the Eriku Oval tomorrow for the announcement of PNG’s newly appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Lae MP, John Rosso.

“It will be attended by Prime Minister James Marape, Governor Ginson Saonu and DPM, and the area of Eriku and roads will be delayed and overcrowded,” highlighted LCCI president, John Byrne.

“Rosso asked for his apologies to be sent as ideally, it would have been held on a weekend but due to PMJM’s calendar, this was the only day possible.

Chamber hails Morobe show

In its Weekly newsletter President Allan McLay said the Morobe Show is always a great event for everyone to enjoy.

"The Morobe Show is always a great occasion with events for everyone to enjoy, from the very young to the very old."

"Operated along the line so more of a traditional type Agricultural show,  it has everything that keep you interested from a range of displays, ringside events complete with the international entertainers, horse riding and cattle judging as well as diverse cultural events," McLay said.

McLay blasts Agriculture Minister

In a statement, McLay said the racial undertones are very serious and show that the Minister will resort to any measure to prove a point.

He said the Minister needs a lesson on how a Chamber of Commerce operates.

“The movement is to benefit all its members so they can operate in a good commercial environment, free from as much political interference and administrative bureaucracy as possible.

“PNG grown vegetables is a great idea and is worth support from all corners of our society.
