Kokopo police cell refurbished

The maintenance project was inspected and declared for use on Wednesday, 3rd January, 2023 by Kokopo District Court Magistrate Leonard Mesmin and Governor Michael Marum.

The upgrade and maintenance plan was focused on electrical circuits, cell blocks, juvenile cell clocks, kitchen upgrade and toilet facilities.

The facility was funded by the East New Britain Provincial Government under law and order sector with K138, 000 and FinCorp donating K20, 000 under its private-public community outreach.

​Gamato warns public about fake news

This follows a viral post last night on social media about defence personnel being involved in alleged hijacking and transporting of ballot papers into Kokopo, East New Britain Province.

Electoral Commissioner Patilius Gamato says these type of online posts are dangerous as they can cause tensions and unnecessary panic on ground.

He says no ballot papers were released as yet for Kokopo.

The public is being called on to be careful as the elections is an important democratic process.

Lae Police apprehend wanted criminals

The dark blue 10 seater was blocked off in front of Bumbu barracks gate as it was travelling into Eriku from West Taraka.

According to Lae Police Metropolitan Commander Anthony Wagambie Jnr, three suspects were apprehended and taken to Lae police station where they were questioned.

It was later revealed that one of the suspects in the vehicle was an escapee from Kokopo Police Station.
