Bail sought for Kokoda attack accused

Toksy Jacob is expected before the National Court to seek bail for his release from custody.

His lawyers from the Public Solicitors office confirmed this morning bail will be sought at 1:30.

Jacob appeared at the Central Committal Court this morning for the third time since his arrest on Jan 13.

His 17-year-old co-accused returned to the Juvenile court yesterday however his case hearing could not proceed due to the unavailability of the presiding magistrate.

He will return to the Port Moresby District court next Wednesday. He remains on bail.

Juvenile in Kokoda case released on bail

Justice Panuel Mogish issued the order yesterday after Public Prosecution team brought the issue of investigation before the court’s attention.

Justice Mogish ordered the officer involved to see his commanding officer for not cooperating with the prosecutor in his investigation despite the case attracting international attention.

The 17-year-old juvenile who was arrested and charge of the attack on two tourists along the Kokoda track early this year was released from custody after a successful bail application at the Waigani National Court.

Kokoda rape suspects arrive, escorted away

Police escorted the suspects from a helicopter  that  landed at the Helifix hanger at Jackson Airport in Port Moresby amid heavy police presence.

It is believed, the three suspects will be taken to the Central CID office to undergo questioning by investigators.

The gates of the hanger area was a scene of tension as guides and operators congregated to ensure the suspects were in police custody in the capital city.

An angry crowd as well as guides and porters kept vigilance as police  moved in to escort the suspects into waiting police vehicles to be taken away.
