The pair appeared together in Steven Spielberg's 1989 sequel Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, with Sir Sean playing Ford's father Henry Jones.

"He was my father... not in life... but in Indy III," said Harrison in an interview with Variety.

"God we had fun - if he's in heaven, I hope they have golf courses. Rest in peace, dear friend," he added.

Ford recalled the "pleasure" of taking Sir Sean "for a ride in the sidecar of a Russian motorcycle, bouncing along a bumpy, twisty mountain trail and getting to watch him squirm".

No Time to Die is due for release on 3 April but fans have asked for it to be held back to the summer "when experts expect the epidemic to have peaked".

The open letter is from the founders of MI6 Confidential and The James Bond Dossier, James Page and David Leigh.

"It is time to put public health above marketing release schedules."

The letter, titled No Time for Indecision, continued: "With a month to go before No Time to Die opens worldwide, community spread of the virus is likely to be peaking in the United States.

Ms Broccoli, daughter of Cubby Broccoli, who adapted Ian Fleming's spy novels to film, insisted the character was written for a man to play.

"Bond is male. He's a male character. He was written as a male and I think he'll probably stay as a male. And that's fine."

She told the Daily Mail turning male characters into women isn't the right approach.

"Let's just create more female characters and make the story fit those female characters."

He appeared in seven Bond films between 1973 and 1985, including Live and Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only.

Sir Roger's family confirmed the news on Twitter, saying he had died after "a short but brave battle with cancer".

The statement from his children Deborah, Geoffrey and Christian, read: "Thank you Pops for being you, and being so very special to so many people."

"With the heaviest of hearts, we must share the awful news that our father, Sir Roger Moore, passed away today. We are all devastated," they said.

He died close to his childhood home in Gladstone, Oregon, on Saturday due to complications from diabetes.

James was best known for appearing alongside Sir Roger Moore in the Bond films Live and Let Die and The Man with the Golden Gun during the 1970s.

His daughter Lynn said: "He was the most outgoing person, beloved by everybody."

She added: "I don't think the man had an enemy. We were incredibly blessed to have had him in our lives."

Fans of Elba have been suggesting he become the first black Bond and the actor is making the argument easy.

He's suave in a suit, has the right accent and will soon star in a new reality series titled "Idris Elba: Fighter."

The Discovery network show will reportedly follow a year of Elba training to become a professional kickboxer.

The actor is familiar with the sport, having done it as part of his workout routine, but this new adventure will take him around the world as he pursues it as a career.

The 43-year-old actor has been widely tipped by bookmakers to take over the role when Daniel Craig leaves the film series.

Elba, who is currently on the big screen in Star Trek Beyond, told ABC's Good Morning America: "I think I'm too old for that.

"Running around in cars and ladies and martinis, who wants to do that? Sounds terrible."

From the Sunbeam Alpine in the 1962 "Dr. No" to this year's Aston Martin, the cars paraded down the Champs Elysees on Sunday after arraying in front of the Arc de Triomphe.

Minus the submarine car from "The Spy Who Loved Me," the display comes before the release of "Spectre" this fall and includes the Aston Martin DB10 created for the film, which features in a chase scene through the streets of Rome.

The film will be released on Nov. 6 in the U.S. and Oct. 26 in Britain.

While the Aussie actor says he hasn't been approached recently about the role, he told E! News while prompting Pan (in theaters Oct. 9) that he's open to it now. "I'd certainly give it a thought," Jackman said. "I don't think there's an actor on the planet who wouldn't at least say, 'Oh, let me have a think about that.'"

Jackman has said in the past that he was once offered the job, but he decided against it because he was getting ready to film X-Men 2.

Spectre (in theaters Nov. 6) is Daniel Craig's final Bond film.
