Paradise College celebrate IWD

This is an effort to inspire young students to embrace gender equality especially in political and economic leadership.

Principal of Paradise College, Safak Delismail said the school decided to observe the international women’s day because he believes that women have to play a greater role in society.  Part of the celebration of women, was to have a few women of integrity and leaders in their own rights, share their experiences with the youngsters, in order that they embrace gender equality.

More female CEOs needed

To commemorate International Women's Day, Smare said more women CEOs will translate into better performances in companies.

Smare revealed the NSL Board currently has three female directors.

He said the appointment of more women to boards will see further governance and transparency in the performance of organizations.

Huafolo: Think of abused women today

Deputy Police Commissioner Administration Raphael Huafolo was speaking during the launch of an evaluation report of the 17 Family sexual violence units throughout the country.

He said the majority of survivors dealt with are women and whilst many will be celebrating this day around the world, many PNG mothers, sisters and daughters are suffering because of violence in the family.

He called on everyone to stand together and unite in the fight to end violence against our womenfolk.

International Womens Day focuses on gender equality

It is a day that is celebrated by the United Nations (UN) since 1975 and serves as a day to celebrate, acknowledge and recognize the work of women in their countries and communities.

The UN appeals for more effort in realizing gender equality as stated by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Goal 4 specifically targets “gender equality”, all other goals also necessitate gender equality and engagement of women.

UN strongly recognizes women as key agents of change in achieving the SDGs.
