Potato farmers reaping rewards

This was in partnership with the Southern Highlands Provincial Government.

It came about with a donation of K14,000 worth of fertilisers, sprayers and agri-equipment from agricultural supply business Chemica.

A total of 45 tonnes of potato seeds were given out to farmers in Southern Highlands, Enga, Western and Eastern Highlands in May this year.

Four months later, the crops are being harvested to supply the new Highlands Agro Industrial Centre (AIC) in Pangia.

Milk prices to be slashed by 50pc

The first ever locally produced milk product by Innovative Agro Industry will be available in Port Moresby stores on February 6th.

Samples of the product were presented yesterday to the Minster for National Planning and Monitoring, Richard Maru, who also first tasted the product.

The product is the final outcome of what has taken less than a year to establish.

Chairman and executive director of Innovative Agro Industry, Ilan Weiss, said the product is 100 percent PNG made.

A step closer to producing PNG dairy products

Last Saturday saw the arrival of 515 pure Holstein dairy cows in Port Moresby. The cows arrived from New Zealand aboard a specially chartered freighter.

They were sourced from premium New Zealand herds and range in age from 13 - 20 months. Prior to departing New Zealand on the 18th of May, the cows were given all necessary vaccinations and some underwent artificial insemination in Taupo.

The cows were moved to their new home at Ilimo Farms in specially modified containers, where they will undergo the quarantine process under the supervision of NAQIA officers.
