Government to leave for India

The high profile Government delegation includes senior state ministers in the likes of the Minister for Education, Nick Kuman, Minister for Inter-Government Relations, Kevin Isifu, Minister for Information, Communication, Technology and Energy, Sam Basil, and Governor for West New Britain, Sasindran Muthuvel.

Other senior government officials traveling with the delegation include Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato and acting registrar general of the Civil and Identity Registry, Michael Kumung.

Australian man trafficked wife and baby to India, police say

Police say the man, 27, used threats, coercion and deception to force his wife and two-month-old girl to leave against the woman's will in March.

He then allegedly tried to cancel his India-born wife's Australian visa.

The man faced a Sydney court on Tuesday on three charges, including human trafficking and forgery of documents.

"It is a disturbing case where we see a victim and their young child transported from Australia to a foreign jurisdiction without any means for them to return home," said Australian Federal Police Supt Dan Evans.

Smog causes vomitting in Delhi

The majority of the Sri Lankan players returned from the second day's lunch break wearing facemasks as the seasonal haze affecting the region thickened over the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium.

Govt delegation to visit India

To be led by Minister for Planning and Monitoring, Richard Maru, the delegation will explore cooperation in education, health, agriculture, the SME sector and the National Identity project.

The visit will also open dialogue for investments in business and trade, mobilisation of resources targeted at economic growth and harnessing positive pathways India has undertaken.

During the announcement, Minister Maru said it was important to engage with India, which was an emerging superpower in the world.

India man wakes up to crocodile shock

Dasharath Madkami said he found the animal when a strange sound woke him up at around 03:00 local time (21:30 GMT).

He raised the alarm to alert other villagers, who overpowered the reptile and tied it to a tree.

The panicky villagers initially wanted to kill the crocodile, but were dissuaded by the headman.

Local wildlife authorities eventually came and rescued the animal.

There was some dispute over where it could be released.

India-Australia decider washed out

Around 30,000 fans were in attendance to see the sides battle for supremacy after Australia levelled the scores at 1-1 in Guwahati.

The downpour prevented the tourists taking a measure of revenge for their 4-1 defeat in the 50-over series.

Australia now turn their attention to next month's Ashes series.

The Indian women saying no to forced tattoos

Many young people get inked to showcase their identity, what makes them distinctive and who they are.

But for me, a decision to not get a tattoo was my version of rebellion, an assertion of my hard-fought independence.

It was my way of saying: "I will not toe the line."

I grew up thinking of tattoos, along with nose and ear piercings, as symbols of the subjugation of women.

That's because my mother has a couple of tattoos. And my grandmother had more than a couple. And they told me they had no choice in the matter.

Fiji and Tuvalu join International Solar Alliance

The International Solar Alliance was launched by India in late 2015 and has about 40 countries as members.

The Alliance's aim is to undertake innovative efforts to develop solar power technology at a reduced cost.

India's government said the Alliance is seeking investment to promote energy security and access for its members.

Any country located between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn is eligible to join the Alliance.

Vanuatu is also a member.

India planning its own Bitcoin-Like Cryptocurrency

They may seem to not like Bitcoin but this doesn’t mean the RBI bank has set aside the whole idea of digital currency alternatives.

According to a the Economic Times, RBI is planning to get in the cryptocurrency business with Lakshmi Coin which can be assumed as their version of Bitcoin.

If made possible, Lakshmi Coin could become a digital currency alternative in India and also contribute to a new Blockchain.

India girl kills herself over 'menstruation shaming'

In a suicide note, she accused the teacher of "torturing" her.

Although the girl did not mention period shaming in her letter, the mother says her daughter was asked to leave the class because of the stain.

Menstruation is taboo in parts of rural India. Women are traditionally believed to be impure during their periods.

Police say they have registered a case of suicide and are investigating. The incident took place early on Sunday in Tirunelveli district in the state of Tamil Nadu.
