Lewas playing Scotland in third ICC match

The Lewas suffered two big losses in their pool matches this week; first by 118 runs to Bangladesh and then by 236 runs at the hands of Pakistan yesterday.

The match today at the MCA Ground started at 10am local time (2pm PNG time).

Both teams are winless so far and will be desperate for points.

The current standings:

Group A: India (6), Sri Lanka (2), Zimbabwe (2), Ireland (2), Thailand (0)

Group B: Pakistan (4), South Africa (4), Bangladesh (4), Scotland (0), PNG (0).

 

 

Fairytale finish for Samoan legend

With the result of the tournament already decided, the two teams were playing for pride with Japan hoping to get their first win of the competition.

But Samoa proved too strong again, to win by three wickets in the 43rd over.

Japan's batting continued their improved run to reach 8/135 at the end of their 50 overs.

Former captain Shizuka Miyaji led the way, top scoring with 27, while Etsuko Kobayashi continued her good form with 25.

For Samoa, player of the match Lagi Otila Telea (2/23) was the pick of the bowlers, picking up two wickets.

Barras name team against Kenya

The Barras will host Kenya at the Amini Park in Port Moresby for the first International Cricket Council (ICC) on the 28-30 of this month.

The 14-man squad will be led by Jack Vare with Assad Vala appointed his deputy.

Among the squad is Brisbane-based player Chad Soper of a mixed Milne Bay and Australian parentage. He was named after the trials.

Cricket PNG head coach Dipak Patel said the team is looking forward to another challenge against the strong Kenyan international team.
