Maki and Boas put Hunters in front

The stadium erupted five minutes into the match when winger Jonus Pearson flew in to score.

The kick from Jordan Kahu was on the dot sailing through to put the visitors in front.

 An unmarked Wawa Paul came close to putting the Hunters on the board but the pass fell just short of his reach with the ball rolling out over the side line.

Trust Wartovo Puara Jr to produce points.

Close to the line, Enock Maki was hard to stop after a short ball from Puara saw him bump and spin out of a tackle to slam the ball down.

Broncos and Hunters all set

Broncos assistant coach of the, Jason Demetriou said his side won’t be taking the Hunters lightly at home.

Hunters coach, Michael Marum said the boys are looking forward to the match against a top NRL side and is expects the Hunters to rise to the challenge.

The trial match is set to kick off at 3:30pm and will be broadcast live on TVWAN. The curtain raiser will be the encounter between the Lae Snax Tigers and Nadi Aviators starting at 1pm.

Hunters back on the grind

In the forwards, Coach Michael Marum is looking to players like Moses Meninga, Mackenzie Yei, Muka Peter Kulu and Baundo Aba to drive the engine room this season.

“Mackenzie is big and really strong. Muka is been in the system for the past year and Baundo from the Enga Mioks has trained really well.

“We want to see how these boys can move on from the fitness side of things to the contact stuff. We’ve got a lot of time so we can still work with them.”

Albert and Loko back in starting line-up

Hunters will be taking on the defending premiers Burleigh Bears on home ground at the National Football Stadium.

This was announced by Hunters coach, Michal Marum when naming the 20 man squad this afternoon.

He added that Brandy Peter will remain in the starting line-up at lock while Nixon Put has been moved to the bench.

“Bland has also been shifted back to the wing and Stargroth to fullback. Another change is Nixon who will come off the bench. He just dropped too many balls last weekend. Nixon will still provide that power off the bench.

Cowboy’s Matt Scott to lead Trukai Fun Run

Currently sidelined with injury, Scott will add an extra sprinkle of stardust to an already impressive roster of sporting celebrities at the Trukai Fun Run.

Scott will lead as the 2017 Trukai Fun Run Ambassador on Sunday June 11 at the Sir John Guise Stadium.

He will be joined by another Cowboys favourite, retired Australian and Queensland centre/winger, Brent Tate.

The duo will also have alongside them SP Hunters players and Team PNG athletes.
