HMAS Choules

HMAS Choules departs PNG

HMAS Choules delivered equipment and tools, gifted as part of the Defence Cooperation Program that will be used to support the capability development of Lombrum Naval Base.

HMAS Choules also hosted 18 members of the PNG Defence Force for the four day transit between Port Moresby and Manus Province.

During their time onboard, the group took part in a series of ship tours, shipboard demonstrations, an MRH90 helicopter familiarisation and gained valuable life-at-sea experiences.

Friendship formed at sea

The officers and sailors joined the ship for the passage between the PNG capital of Port Moresby to the Lombrum Naval Base, HMPNGS Tarangau, in Manus Province.

Throughout the transit, the group had the opportunity to gain some valuable life at sea experiences including ship tours, safety equipment demonstrations and an aviation familiarisation with the ships embarked MRH90 helicopter.

They not only got to experience a flight in the aircraft; but were also afforded the opportunity to be winched back down to the flight deck.

Australian Defence Force personnel have deployed on HMAS Choules for a month-long activity of engagement and training with their regional partners and other government agencies in the Southwest Pacific.

The Commanding Officer of HMAS Choules, Commander Scott Houlihan, said the deployment provides an opportunity to contribute to long-standing relationships and enduring engagement with Pacific island nations.
