Journalists awarded

Among them were four female journalists who were awarded for their coverage of the sensitive issues.

Every year, UN Women and UNAIDS organise the Media Awards for Excellence in Reporting on HIV and Gender-Based Violence.

This is to recognise the high standard of balanced sensitive reporting by local media personnel on GBV and HIV issues in Papua New Guinea.

Under this year’s theme of ‘Hear My Voice! My Story!’, four female journalists and a Yumi Sanap Strong representative were awarded on November 5th.

Heads of churches to meet over HIV/AIDS

A media briefing was held this morning to brief media on the agenda, key speakers and officiators of the summit for the next two days.

His Eminence, Sir John Cardinal Ribat during the meet this morning said that the summit will be opened tomorrow by Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill.

“The summit will unite the heads of churches throughout Papua New Guinea and will discuss sensitive issues relating to HIV and AIDS such as Gender Based Violence (GBV), stigma and discrimination, human rights, access to service in issues affecting the key population’s in the country.

Wantok system good to care for orphans: Polye

“Wantokism can breed corruption.  However, trust and love and care between relations can give love, homes and a future to orphans,” said Mr Polye when closing NCD World AIDs Day at Sir John Guise Indoor complex in Port Moresby.

He said Papua New Guineans need to look after orphans of those who died of the deadly virus.

“I always think about who would look after my kids if and when I die.

Muthuvel: Enquiry into the country’s HIV and Aids status

Muthuvel says the direct and side effects of HIV and Aids are felt at all levels of society and as such his committee will be visiting all provinces.

He is appealing to all governors to support his committee's work when the inquiry begins.

The committee will visit selected provinces in the four regions.
