Queen to miss Cop26 climate conference in Glasgow

The Queen has pulled out of hosting a major reception for world leaders at the Cop26 climate change summit, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

The 95-year-old monarch was due to travel to Scotland for the high-profile engagement on Monday 1 November.

Buckingham Palace said the monarch had “regretfully decided” not to attend the event. A Palace spokesperson added: “Her Majesty is disappointed not to attend the reception but will deliver an address to the assembled delegates via a recorded video message.”

Queen Elizabeth II recognises local woman

Simogun’s nonprofit organisation has supported over 6,000 victims of gender-based violence.

The organisation also aims to overturn the cultural norms that negatively impact women.

Following high levels of domestic violence in her community, Simogun founded the charity to support women and girls and is addressing the root causes of domestic violence by working with schools and local law enforcement.

Each Commonwealth Point of Light will receive a personalised certificate signed by the Queen as Head of the Commonwealth.
