Manpower shortage in healthcare

Shortage of manpower is one biggest issue faced by health centres and hospitals in the country. This is not conducive to the delivery of health services because it weakens the quality of services delivery especially to the rural population where the bulk of the people live.

The committee will also establish whether or not they are providing the required level of services prescribed in the national health services standards. 

Chairman of the Committee and Pomio MP, Elias Kapavore said,” I have given an instruction to the Secretary for Health to get an update from all 22 CEOs in the country, of their performances in their respective status of Provincial Health Authority. We are struggling with many CEOs who are not doing the right things. We will be compiling a report to present in Parliament of state of Health Care in the country.”

He told Chief Executive Officers of 22 Provincial Health Authorities during a recent health meet. The Prime Minister adding that the COVID-19 pandemic had intensified the deficiency PNG has in its healthcare sector over these years. 

Morobe to benefit from new health facilities

The three new facilities include Yamaya community health post (CHP) in Menyamya District; and Bulolo Health centre and Garasa community health post in Bulolo District. 

Australian High Commissioner, Bruce Davis, said during the opening ceremony of Bulolo Health Centre that Australia is absolutely committed to investing in PNG’s stability, security and prosperity through the Papua New Guinea-Australia partnership.
