Health centre for Kunua

ABG Secretary for Health, Clement Totavun, said this project will be funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) following the successful approval of a proposal for the Kunua Health Centre.

“We prioritised Kunua due to lack of adequate government services in that region for a long time. The government health centre is unable to meet the health needs of the growing population therefore we planned for a better health facility to improve quality and access to health services for the people of Kunua,” said Totavun.

Usino Gets New Health Centre

The sub-health centre was built at a cost of K4.2 million funding from the Usino-Bundi District Development Authority an additional K2 million from the Prime Minister’s SIP program funding.

Thousands of people from all three LLGs of Usino-Bundi converged onto the station and witnessed the official opening.

Guest of honor was the Secretary for Health, Dr. Osborne Liko, who made a commitment to support the new health facility with two new ambulances.

First-ever health centre for remote village

Simbai is a remote high country part of Madang Province bordering Jiwaka, Western Highlands, Enga and East Sepik provinces.

Access is only by plane from Mt. Hagen and sometimes Madang. Project coordinator of the Anglican health centre, Morrison Wiam, said the new Kaironk Valley Health Centre is the first of such medical service in the area since 1975 and will serve over 12,000 people in that rugged part of Madang Province who are in dire need of basic health care services.

New infrastructure for Buna Village

The infrastructure was delivered jointly by the Australian Government – through the Kokoda Initiative – and the No Roads Foundation, with specific contributions from other partners.

Representatives from the Australian High Commission, No Roads Foundation, Kokoda Track Foundation (KTF) and local and provincial authorities gathered to inaugurate the new buildings on 10 September, along with representatives from the local community and some Kokoda trekkers.
