Footbridge for Gumine coffee farmers

The government-funded footbridge project is under the Coffee Industry Corporation’s Coffee Access Road Project with an investment of K529,000.00.

According to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Charles Dambui the project span was for three months however he was pleased that the footbridge was completed in 2 months.

“This is an impact project for the local people in the Maril-Minimbi area and we are very happy that this has taken less time to complete it by the contractor Rumaris Investment Ltd.”

Projects Launched in Gumine

The rural electrification project cost K6.5 million and the first phase will cover Kel, Moremaule, and Omkolai, second phase in Dirima, Gumine and Boromil and the third phase will include Gomgale and Mul.

This rural electrification project is a partnership program between Gumine District Development Authority, PNG Power Ltd and the Government expected to start in August.

Human trafficking trial underway

The trial, presided by Justice Panuel Mogish, saw the fourth state witness take the stand today.

Businessman Willie Gare of Gumine, Chimbu Province, is standing at the National Court for six counts of human trafficking, one count of aggravated human trafficking and one count of rape. 

Gare who has pleaded not guilty to all the charges was allegedly involved in the recruitment and transportation of two boys and eight girls from Lealea and Boera villages, to Kundiawa on 30 July 2015, to perform at the opening of a lodge on 14 August, 2015.
