Gulf Security Team Prepared

Gulf Provincial and Kerema Police Station Commander, Sergeant Michael Pakyei in a briefing last Friday said the week’s preparation was concentrated on airfares for security personnel travelling into the hinterlands of Gulf, which was set up as of Friday, July 1st.

Over 300 security personnel are on the ground to oversee safety during the polling and counting period, they include Mobile squad, Correctional Service officers, PNG Defence Force and Water Police from Port Moresby. Kerema police will be dispatched to escort the visiting officers and reservists. 

Vehicles For Gulf Police

The vehicles was handed over to the Gulf Provincial Police Commander, Chief Inspector Jeffery Lemb at the Southern Divisional Command headquarter in Port Moresby, recently.
Director Media, Chief Superintendent Dominic Kakas handed over the keys to the two vehicles on behalf of Police Commissioner, David Manning.

Boy falls to death in election convoy in Gulf Province

A boy fell from the roof top of a moving convoy of trucks.

The truck was filled with supporters of an intending candidate that was heading back home after the nominations on Monday.

The boy was pronounced dead at the Malalaua hospital.

Gulf Police Station Commander Thomas Akasiki also confirmed the incident saying the incident would have  been avoided if the people took the awareness on elections seriously.

 He said police have carried awareness of the what elections would be like and the behaviour and it's consequences would be based on their actions.

Gulf Province Police to focus on borders

The Kerema Police Station Commander; Thomas Akasiki mentioned this after lead up operations toward the election starting this month.

Akasiki said there has never been problems in the past elections but for this year alone; they are focused on providing security along its borders in the Kikori District and the mountain regions of Kotidanga District because these are hot spots for illegal firearms and drug smuggling.
