Kokopo cops found guilty

The policemen received a tip off of marijuana being cultivated at the deceased, Wesley Kenny’s block.

During the search, the deceased was severely beaten up by the officers. As a result, he sustained life threatening injuries which subsequently led to his death.

Joe Ngotngot, Eric John, Jack Bemau and David Haro pleaded not guilty when their case went for trial before Acting Judge David Susame.

They denied assaulting the deceased and inflicting injuries on him.

Evidence from prosecution did not prove a wilful murder case but that of manslaughter.

Namah guilty for storming into court

Justice Terrence Higgins and Senior Magistrates Patricia Tivese and Alex Kalandi reconvened today to give the verdict and penalties after the tribunal heard evidence in November last year.

They recommended to the Head of State that Namah be dismissed from office after finding him guilty of misconduct in office when he stormed into the court room, demanding the arrest of Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia.

The recorded session of the incident on 24 May 2012 was played by the Judiciary’s court reporting services during the tribunal hearing before members of the tribunal.

Woman guilty for stealing over K200,000 phone credits

Glenda Nugai was found guilty by the Court today after she admitted to allegations she transferred K232,000 worth of Digicel credits on 25 different occasions to a man, known to the court as Norman Ilikis, who sold the credits.

This allegedly took place between a period of three months, from 21 Nov 2014 to Jan 31, 2015.
