Trukai celebrates 50 years

The company announced the milestone in a media conference on February 11th that as part of the celebrations, promotions will be run in the coming months.

To mark the half century the company also announced a new agreement with local landowners in Morobe Province to venture into commercial rice farming.

Since its inception in February 17th 1970 as Ricegrowers – Australia and then changing to Trukai Industries Limited in 1994, the company has grown as the leading food brand in PNG.

Cost of rice will not increase: Trukai

Trukai Industries CEO, Greg Worthington-Eyre, said while Trukai understands and is deeply concerned over the current economic conditions in PNG, and the pending inflationary impact of fuel price increases, currency devaluation and reduced consumer spending power, it has no plans at this point of passing on the impact of these issues to PNG consumers.

Worthington-Eyre says Trukai’s focus on food security, which includes affordability and quality, is at the forefront and they will be making every effort to support the people of PNG.

Trukai staff to join police reserve program

This was made possible through the signing of an historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which will see select Trukai staff join the RPNGC.

The MoU, which was announced last week at Police Headquarters in Konedobu, Port Moresby, saw Police Commissioner Gari Baki and Trukai Industries CEO, Greg Worthington-Eyre, witness the signing.

“To begin this MoU with the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary and its Reserve Police Program, Trukai Industries will provide a core group of eight Trukai security personnel,” said Worthington-Eyre.
