Police deployment delayed

 

Police Commissioner Gari Baki says that only K8 million of the K121 million needed to run the operations have been released from Treasury.

Presently provinces have been running operations without the full response contingents which Baki says have yet to be deployed.

Baki says that all commanders are due to fly into Port Moresby this week to review the progress of their operations while also look at the set up of their centres on ground to coordinate the operations.

Commissioner Baki on tour of Bougainville

PNGRC Commissioner, Gari Baki is currently in Bougainville to undertake discussions as part of the ABG-New Zealand Community Policing Project and also to launch the election operations of the Bougainville Police Service.

The Commissioner met with ABG President John Momis to discuss important law and order issues on Bougainville.

President Momis raised the issue of police visibility in Bougainville as a deterrent to crime and what ways to further empower the Bougainville Police Service.

Police Commissioner praises people for peace effort

Commissioner Baki flew into the Province the following day for a planned visit which was brought forward upon news to ensure peace is maintained.

“My decision to come here was planned so when I received the urgent news I had to be here personally to give the assurance that the issue will be dealt with according to Law and to simmer down the tension and bring Kimbe to normalcy as we prepare to go into elections,” he said.

50 guns for Joint Services College

He said as one of the disciplinary forces that sends its men to the college, RPNGC is obliged to help in any way. 

“As Commissioner, I am obligated to help because this institution is responsible in helping train our men and women,” Commissioner Baki said. 

He stated that the weapons will be used for training purposes only.

The 50 rifles are part of the 250 that were confiscated by the PNG Customs last year and kept at the Igam Barracks.

Commissioner applauds reintroduction of Joint Services College

Commissioner of Police Gari Baki made this comment when he farewelled a total of 15 police officer cadets at a dinner at the Police Officers Mess at the Bomana Training College last week.

Commissioner Baki said: “I can attest to the fact that many police officers who joined the Constabulary and were a part of the JSC program, were closely acquainted with their counterparts from the other two disciplinary forces.

Baki promotes senior constables

The Commissioner of Police has recognised and praised the efforts of his officers who commit their time in the communities.

Gari Baki said such officers should be given credit where it's due.

The Commissioner was in the Huon Gulf Electorate in Morobe Province over the weekend.

Morobe Patrol Post rural police station Commander James Maiwan was promoted to Sergeant and OIC Trans National Crimes Manu Pulei was elevated to Senior Sergeant.

Both members served more than 20 years within the Constabulary and had been recommended for field promotion.

Security personnel withdrawn from Hela

Commissioner for Police, Gari Baki, confirmed this today during a conference at the Police Headquarters in Port Moresby.

Baki said only a small contingent of defence and two sections of the mobile squad are still in the province.

The officers were pulled out for a couple of reasons; one of which is to reposition the men and prepare again for redeployment for the elections. The second reason is the issue of funding.

However, Baki says that will not stop them from going into phase two of the call-out operations, which will be the targeted operations in the province.

Bomana police housing occupancy woes continue

Commissioner of Police, Gari Baki told Loop PNG that it hasn’t been resolved simply because of the fact that Red Sea hasn’t handed over the buildings to the police department and that the government still owes them money.

Baki says the Police Department does not owe Red Sea any money.

“This is a project initiated by the government but is built on police land.”

The project is completed however, Eda Ranu and PNG Power have not connected power or water because Red Sea has not handed over the keys and would not allow them any access to the property.

RPNGC observes World Health Day

Basing his statement on fact sheets released from the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland, Baki says the relationship between Mental Health Service and the Police Constabulary is time honoured and very amiable.

"This day simply makes our relationship solid," he stated during the commemoration of the World Health Day 2017, "Depression- Let's Talk", this morning.

Baki says is happy that his officers were actively involved in the formulation of the National Mental Health Services and are now beneficiaries to the enactment of this Act.

Surrendered Weapons in Tari to be destroyed

The destruction of weapons will take place tomorrow, as part of the “Operation Klinim Hela” program.”

The program follows a special call out operations sanctioned by the Government to help stem the buildup of arms and ammunition in the province ahead of the 2017 National Election.

For tomorrow March 7, 2017, a joint tentative program will see Phase One of the arms surrender.
