Game of thrones

What 'Game of Thrones' tells us about trauma

Maybe it was when a young girl was burned alive while her parents watched complicitly. Perhaps it was the orchestrated slaughter of a family, a pregnant woman's belly stabbed again and again like the film over a frozen TV dinner. Was it when a psychopath ate a sausage next to his freshly-castrated hostage? Or one of the uncountable, imaginative depictions of rape and psychological abuse?

Every "Game of Thrones" fan has had it, the moment when they looked away from the screen and wondered:

"Is suffering the only thing these people do?"

Ed Sheeran deletes his Twitter account

The singer said earlier this month that he wasn't going to read anything on the social network anymore - but now he's gone one step further.

The latest move comes after he had a brief cameo appearance on Game of Thrones, which was seriously mocked by some fans.

He's also announced that he's going to appear in an upcoming episode of The Simpsons.

'Game of Thrones' author George R.R. Martin to executive produce a new show for HBO

It’s been announced that George R.R. Martin will executive produce another fantasy series for HBO.

According to Variety, Martin has signed on to an adaptation of the 2010 novel “Who Fears Death” by author Nnedi Okorafor. The news was confirmed in a tweet from Okorafor on Monday.

Martin is an exciting get for any upcoming show thanks to the popularity of “Game of Thrones,” which is based on his popular “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series. However, unlike “Thrones,” the source material for the “Who Fears Death” adaptation will not be his own.

Ed Sheeran to make guest appearance in Game of Thrones

Speaking at the SXSW film festival in Texas, David Benioff and Dan Weiss said they'd been trying to book him for a while.

Ed also confirmed the news as reports started to appear online by tweeting "guess the cat's out the bag".

It's not clear what role he'll have in the show.

The panel at SXSW also featured stars Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams.

It was suggested that the Ed Sheeran booking was made as a surprise for Maisie because she's a big fan of the singer.

Ed's not the first musician to appear in Game of Thrones.

The seventh series of Game of Thrones will air in July

The seventh series will air in the UK on 17 July, a day behind American viewers, and it'll be the penultimate series.

Fans watched an online video for more than an hour to see a huge block of ice being melted to reveal the air date.

It's thought the post was nodding to the series title: A Song of Ice and Fire

A new trailer was released for the show too.

In it, Jon Snow says: "There is only one war that matters. The Great War. And it is here."

According to broadcasters, the coming series promises a "brutal, bloody and wintry return to Westeros".

Game of Thrones used in attempt to lure tourists to Aleppo

Bashar al-Assad's regime released a promotional video Friday with panoramic views of government-held parts of Aleppo, accompanied by an acoustic version of the theme music to the popular HBO television series.

Showcased in the video are aerial shots of wide green boulevards and swimming pools. It's a far cry from the rebel-held eastern part of the city, where 250,000 people live with daily airstrikes, according to the UN, and where whole blocks of neighborhoods have been destroyed.

New PNG Ant species named after Game of Thrones Dragons

They reminded scientists of dragons so much, they named them after two of the fire-breathing beasts from the Game of Thrones.

The two new ant species from Papua New Guinea, named Pheidole drogon and Pheidole viserion, have spiny barbs along their backs and shoulders with an unusual set of muscles beneath them.

Game of Thrones stars let loose in blooper reel

In a video, which premiered Friday at San Diego Comic-Con, Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke and Kit Harrington are among the cast members caught on camera having a little fun behind the scenes of the hit HBO show.

The blooper reel features outtakes of some of the most momentous scenes of season six.

The video capped off a conversation at Comic-Con that was light on details about the upcoming season — the show is only in the beginning stages of production.

Game of Thrones season seven may be delayed for winter weather

Writers and producers for the series, David Benioff and DB Weiss, have suggested that the wait for the hit fantasy TV shows' next season may be even longer this time around.

HBO has traditionally aired each season in April, with season six airing a little later this year on April 24. But this could change next year.

"We don't have an air date yet but this year it will probably be a little bit later," Benioff and Weiss told the UFC Unfiltered podcast on June 5.

Game Of Thrones Series Six Footage Released

The US network has created a three-minute video about 2015 and its line-up of shows and films for 2016, which included around four seconds from the next season of the fantasy drama.

Viewers see a flash of Daenerys Targaryen, who looks like she has been through a tough time with knotted hair and a worried look on her face.

The psychopathic Ramsay Bolton is also included in the clip, riding a horse and leading his bannermen.

Then Cersei Lannister comes into view with her hair still cropped short as she gives her son Tommen, king of King's Landing, a hug.
