Four Nations: Australia hammer New Zealand 34-8 in final at Anfield

Mal Meninga's team went through the tournament unbeaten - and in wrestling the title from the Kiwis reclaimed the world number one ranking.

With a quarter of the match gone, tries from Blake Ferguson, Josh Dugan and Trent Merrin plus a penalty from Johnathan Thurston gave the Kangaroos an unassailable 20-0 lead.

That was 24-0 by the break as the ruthless Australians added to their score when Dugan touched down a kick from Thurston.

Thaiday's Four Nations campaign looks done

Australia claimed the match 38-16 at the London Stadium, however Thaiday was forced from the field following a heavy collision with England forward James Graham.

The pair clashed heads, with the Australian coming off second best, and was taken to hospital for scans on the injury.

“Unfortunately it will probably put [Thaiday] out of the game next week,” Australian coach Mal Meninga said post-match.

“I think it was accidental.”

Kangaroos playmaker Cooper Cronk echoed those sentiments after the comprehensive victory.

Meninga set to throw a cat amongst the pigeons

According to News Corp, Meninga is set to name Matt Moylan, Jake Trbojevic, Jake Friend, Justin O’Neill and James Maloney to make their international debuts against Scotland next weekend.

The Aussie coach is keen to give his entire 24-man squad a run before the pointy end of the tournament, given the Kangaroos’ one-off Test against the Kiwis last weekend.

Aaron Woods and Josh Mansour are also expected to take their places in the side following their respective weddings last weekend.

Bennett names first England squad

Eight NRL players, including Sam Burgess, have been included but the former Kangaroos mentor has omitted some established names as he looks to guide his adopted nation to a first ever tournament success.

Morris's Four Nations hopes in Bulldogs' hands

Morris has been in scintillating form since returning from a long-term knee injury in Round 16, scoring nine tries in seven games including a double on Thursday night in a golden point win against Manly that shored up his team's top-four hopes.
