Domestic violence getting more severe, reports centre

This was reported by the Family Support Centre (FSC) at the Port Moresby General Hospital.

The centre provides five essential services, including physiological first aid for survivors of domestic violence and sexual violence, including rape and child abuse.

FSC has been conducting medical examinations since 2014 and has found that there’s an increase of cases relating to violence, especially of children and women.

The centre treats over 1000 survivors a year, with about 30-40 patients a month.

Family Support Centre gets timely assistance

The IRC staff donated in cash and kind to the centre to assist family and sexual violence survivors.

IRC presented K1 108.70 and old belongings, including library books, crayons, colour pencils, children’s clothing and beddings.

IRC also provides a safe place for victims of family and sexual violence and IRC commissioner general Betty Palaso said this is part of their support to the community.
