Facebook might soon launch its own 'dedicated space for video'

During today's Facebook quarterly earnings call, CEO Mark Zuckerberg let it be known that his social media company wants to better cater to users who spend a combined total of 100 million hours watching video daily.

"We're exploring ways to give people a dedicated place on Facebook when they just want to watch video," Zuckerberg told investors.

Such a move would likely move Facebook into competition with YouTube, the current dominant force among streaming video content providers.

No timeline has been set for when such a project would enter development at Facebook.

Facebook launches hub for sports related Chat

The service combines live scores, stats and play-by-play information with match chatter from your friends and experts alike.

The Matchup tab, meanwhile, plays host to photos and video content from the game you're following, as and when it emerges.

Sports Stadium sounds like just the place for Premier League footy banter, but its reach and coverage is limited at launch.

Right now, the service is only available for iOS users in America, who happen to be fans of the NFL.

Indecent exposure case adjourned for ‘last time’

Police indicated before the court that investigators involved in the case are still doing investigation and are yet to serve files to the accused.

The case has been going on since October 2015 and the District Court indicated it will proceed with a ruling on the next mention date whether or not police complete and present investigation files.

The woman (name withheld) of a Bogia, Madang village, had a warrant of arrest issued against her by the court on Dec 8 after she failed to come to court twice.

Facebook's Find-a-Friend invitation emails are illegal

The feature accesses users' email address books and sends invitations to contacts who aren't yet signed up to Facebook.

However, this has been deemed illegal by Frankfurt's Federal Court of Justice, who labelled the function an intrusive form of marketing.

"Invitation emails from Facebook to people who have not clearly consented to receiving them are an unacceptable nuisance," the court ruled, after upholding a previous ruling by a lower court.

Facebook Messenger has more than 800 million monthly users

This reflects a significant increase, up from 500 million in late 2014—though a chunk of Messenger's growth can be attributed to Facebook's decision to nix in-app messaging from its flagship app, effectively forcing users to download Messenger.

As noted in Fast Company's December 2015 cover story, Facebook boasts 1.55 billion monthly users, which makes Messenger's numbers doubly impressive.

The app has eclipsed Facebook-wide growth over the past year, given that Facebook only gained about 200 million new monthly users since November 2014.

Facebook class action lawsuits to go ahead

A federal judge certified the legal proceedings, Reuters reports, saying investors who claim they lost money could pursue their claims as groups.

Facebook told the BBC that it was disappointed with the decision and it has launched an appeal against it.

The firm's initial public offering (IPO) in May 2012 raised $16bn (£10bn).

The investors say that by purchasing the firm's shares at inflated prices they lost money.

New Facebook feature will give News Feed updates when offline

New Facebook feature will give News Feed updates when offline

Soon you won't need an internet connection in order to see what's going on in your friends' lives as Facebook tests offline News Feed updates.

The new offline/slow connection mode will give users something new to read even when in a signal black spot by showing previously downloaded but unread content from your friends' feeds.

Just like its online News Feed, the offline mode will rank posts based on their perceived relevance, meaning you won't simply be subjected to that random guy from work's inane chatter and breakfast snaps.
