Facebook loses $500m Oculus virtual reality case

The jury found Oculus, which Facebook bought in 2014, used computer code belonging to video game developer Zenimax to launch its own VR headset.

Oculus said it was "disappointed" and would appeal against the ruling.

The case threatened to overshadow Facebook's latest results, which showed it enjoyed a strong end to the year.

Facebook's net profit more than doubled to $3.6bn in the fourth quarter.

Facebook adds FIDO U2F Security Keys Feature for secure logins

We have always been advising you to enable two-factor authentication — or 2FA — to secure your online accounts, a process that requires users to manually enter, typically a six-digit secret code generated by an authenticator app or received via SMS or email.

So even if somehow hackers steal your login credentials, they would not be able to access your account without one-time password sent to you.

But, Are SMS-based one-time passwords Secure?

Facebook to roll out fake news tools in Germany

The world's largest social network said it would enable German users to flag potentially false stories.

The stories will then be passed to third-party fact-checkers and if found to be unreliable, will be marked in users' news feeds as "disputed".

It is the first major rollout of the fake news features announced by Facebook in December.

Facebook 'to launch ads within videos'

The ads would probably first appear in Facebook videos by professional publishers, said one analyst.

To date, the social network has resisted allowing "pre-roll" ads that play before a video starts.

Publishers would receive 55% of revenue from mid-roll ad sales, according to tech site Recode.

Facebook declined to comment.

"Advertisers are super keen on video advertising," said Eleni Marouli, at analyst company IHS Markit.

The US tour comes amid speculation that a future personal challenge by Mr Zuckerberg could include running for president of the United States.

Facebook banned Neptune statue photo for being 'explicitly sexual'

Designed by Jean Boulogne, better known as Giambologna, the mid-sixteenth century fountain of Neptune stands in the Piazza del Nettuno in Bologna.

Facebook appeared to have taken offense at the disrobed Roman god, asking Italian writer Elisa Barbari to remove it from her Facebook page, "Stories, curiosities and views of Bologna," where she shares historical facts and oddities about the city.

Barbari had tried to use a photo from her personal collection but upon upload faced what appeared to be an automatic prohibition, deeming the image "explicitly sexual."

Facebook knows a lot about your “offline life” too

It uses the data to power its ever-growing advertising platform which is a significant part of the company’s income resources. They know if you hate Donald Trump or not, you recently watched a superhero movie or some chilling horror flick.

Personally, I have observed that the items I browse on the internet are likely to show up in my news feed. That’s the level of interest Facebook has in our lives. However, they admit this thing, and their policies reflect it. Anyways, to some extent, it is fine if Facebook follows us just on the internet to serve better ads.

Facebook lurking makes you miserable, says study

A University of Copenhagen study suggests excessive use of social media can create feelings of envy.

It particularly warns about the negative impact of "lurking" on social media without connecting with anyone.

The study suggests taking a break from using social media.

The study of more than 1,000 participants, mostly women, says that "regular use of social networking such as Facebook can negatively affect your emotional well-being and satisfaction with life".
