Footage from the scene showed windows and doors at the Habib Bank building blown out, vehicles damaged, and documents strewn across the street.

Deadly bomb attacks strike Kabul airport; airlift thrust into chaos

The attacks have effectively shutting down the Western airlift of Afghans desperate to flee.

There was no complete death toll, but video images uploaded by Afghan journalists showed dozens of bodies of people killed in tightly packed crowds outside the airport.

At least 3 dead in explosions, shooting in Jakarta

Gunshots were heard after the midmorning explosion in front of the Sarinah shopping mall and a police station. The area also has many luxury hotels, and offices and embassies, including the French.

It was not clear who was shooting but police had cordoned off the area, preventing reporters from going near the scene.

Chinese chemical factory blast death toll rises to 13

A factory that produces adhesive materials exploded on Aug. 31 in Lijin county in Shandong province.

Two days after the blast, the official death toll stood at five. The Dongying city government, which administers the area, said the toll had risen to 13 following the completion of search and rescue efforts Saturday. It said all 13 bodies had been identified, but gave no further details. It said 25 other people had been injured, 11 of whom were still hospitalized.

Huge blast at Spanish fireworks factory kills 5, wounds 6

The blast occurred around 2 p.m. (1200 GMT) at the Pirotecnia Zaragozana factory in the small town of Pinseque, sending a dense plume of white smoke into the sky that could be seen for kilometers (miles).

Explosion rips through chemical plant in eastern China

Xinhua says no casualties were immediately reported following the blast Saturday night in Shandong province on Saturday night.

The news agency says the explosion triggered a fire and that a dozen fire engines are battling the fire.

The blast follows the Aug. 12 chemical warehouse explosion in the northern Chinese port of Tianjin. At least 121 people were killed in that disaster, while another 54 remain unaccounted for.

Life sentence ordered in deadly Indianapolis house blast

 

A judge ordered the sentence for 46-year-old Mark Leonard, saying he was the main person behind the November 2012 blast that killed the couple and destroyed or damaged more than 80 homes.

"I do think he was the prime mover of these events," St. Joseph County Superior Court Judge John Marnocha said. "He orchestrated them."

Large explosion rocks southeast Missouri aluminum plant

The explosion and fire occurred around 12:30 p.m. at the Noranda Aluminum plant near the town of Marston in New Madrid County, about 170 miles south of St. Louis.

Noranda spokesman John Parker said all workers had been accounted for and there were no life-threatening injuries. He said some people suffered what appeared to be non-critical burns and smoke inhalation.

Parker said one of the injured workers was taken to a hospital for treatment. Others were treated at the scene.
