Halt Mine Approvals, Says CSOs

The Centre for Environmental Law and Community Rights (CELCOR) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea, and Australian groups Jubilee Australia and the Mineral Policy Institute sent an open letter to the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Mining Minister, Minister for Environment, Conservation and Climate Change and the Mineral Resources Authority.

The letter requests a halt of any further approvals until discussions can be had with all affected project communities, including those in the Huon Gulf.

Mananda sub health centre reopens doors

Through the partnership between ExxonMobil PNG and ECPNG, the Mananda sub health centre recently reopened its doors to the community of Mananda in the Komo region.

Staff at Mananda are once again providing outpatient services, inpatients wards, antenatal and postnatal care as well as volunteering counselling and testing (VCT) of HIV & AIDS.

With a beaming smile on her face, Sister-in-Charge of the Mananda sub-health centre, Sister Betty Maga, offered her thanks to ExxonMobil PNG for their new clinic.
