Mioks coach sacked

Enga Mioks chairman, Philip Kepson, confirmed this today, stating that the franchise board could not hold back Andiki after losing six games in a row in the 2021 Digicel Cup challenge.

“We were supposed to perform according to expectation,” Kepson told this newsroom. “But because of non-performance, we had to let him go.”

He further blamed Andiki for the loss of 23 key players.

Coach With No Powers

Andiki said after the team lost 23 of its key players, it is no longer performing the way he expects it to.

He said losing Round 6 of the Digicel Cup in yesterday’s match against the Waghi Tumbe, although by only two points, is a clear indication of the problems the coach and players are going through, including the entire EPG Enga Mioks franchise.

Tigers deliver

Lae Snax Tigers opened the score board 11 minutes into the game and came back with another try.

Mioks would not let their fans down, who travelled all the way from Enga, pushing a try just before half time.

Mioks than opened the second half with a try however the Tigers never backed down on home soil, scoring two back to back tries in the 53rd minute and in the 58th minute.

Mioks than scored 61 minutes into the game, but strong defence from tigers saw the final score at 26 points to 16.

Mioks prove their worth

This afternoon they sailed over the Gulf Isou at the Sir John Guise stadium, 36-16 at fulltime.

In the opening minutes it was fair play from both sides as they tested each other on the field, but the Isous were quick with first try just after 10 minutes into the game.

Mioks returned the favour some six minutes later with a try from John Orope. Roger Laka levelled the score with a conversion.

It was 6-all until a close call by Mioks winger, with a second attempt that was unsuccessful.

Hunters defeated at home

The SP Hunters seven game winning streak came to an end on Saturday night after being beaten by the last placed Tweed Heads Seagulls 14-10 at the National Football Stadium.

Gurias sink Mioks

A double from Stanly Olo in the first half puts Gurias in front leading 12-0 at the break.

The second half grew more physical with Mioks regaining momentum with strong counter attacks and applying hard tackles forcing Gurias into ball handling errors.

With 15 into the second half, Mioks half back Dicksy Anni slamed the ball over Gurias line with an amazing fly catch inside the Gurias try line landing under the center post to narrow the lead to 6-12.

Gurias than sent in Joe Taputapu into the corner post to further their lead to 16-6.

Mioks chairman Kepson initiates sponsorship for players

Mioks Chairman Philip Kepson in a message to the public says the initiative to involve sponsors is something new and aims to boost teams taking part.

“We have the following minor sponsorships for any individual or group to take up for this weekends minor semi final match between our own team Enga Mioks and Mt Hagen Eagles.

Each sponsored player will be paid full if they (the team) win. However, if they lose they will be paid only half the amount of the sponsorship. 

Kepson said there are eight different categories which  individuals or groups can sponsor; 

Mioks edge out Gurias in round 12

The win pushed the Engans effectively to third place with 17 points on the Digicel Cup points ladder as the premier team fell back to fourth position with 16 points.

 

Mt Hagen Eagles maintained the second position with 19 points after beating Waghi Tumbe 16-4 in Minz while Lae Snax Tigers maintain the top position with 21 points. This was after collecting two free points for a bye yesterday.
