EHP ward record book MoU signed

This was made possible through a Memorandum of Understanding signing between the Eastern Highlands Provincial Government, and the Department of Provincial & Local Level Government Affairs in Port Moresby today.

Having a Ward Record Book is a first of its kind record keeping exercise for the Eastern Highlands Province.

Deputy Secretary for the Department of Provincial & Local Level Government Affairs, Larson Thomas said every council ward must have a data system.

Management of Goroka showground

The HFSA is concerned that under the previous Committee, the showground lack proper planning to take the Show forward.

President Wilson Thompson stated that many cultural shows and festivals have ceased operations and that the Goroka Show is no exception when it doesn't have a permanent Showground.

A committee will be in place to oversee all proceedings regarding the showground and its management moving forward.

Education Complex for Eastern Highlands

Eastern Highlands Education Director Wesley Albert presented the cheque to the construction company representative Liu Ming.

Principal architect Robert Lai, senior officers from the provincial education division and media witnessed the funding presentation. 

Ming said the company has been in the country for five years, based in Eastern Highlands and has done a number of construction work, including the Goroka main market and a couple of road rehabilitation works.

They will now construct the 3-story Education Complex.

Cultural Institutions In Disrepair

Host to three cultural institutions, the National Film Institute, National Performing Arts Troupe based in Goroka and the Provincial Cultural Centre based in Kainantu in Eastern Highlands Province has not been able to fund these institutions.

National Cultural Commission Executive Director Steven Kilanda said that if there were any funding available it would not be sufficient enough to cater to them.

He said Eastern Highlands Province is the gateway to the rest of the highlands provinces yet its cultural institutions are rotting due to blatant neglect.

EHPG willing to look after Lahanis

Eastern Highlands Governor Julie Soso says as the team goes through uncertainty on whether Bintagor will continue being the franchisor, the provincial government is ready to back the team up.

She made the statements following recent media reports that Bintangor owner, Simon Sia, will be ending their support to the team. A report which Sia denied.
