Governor backs EIT Commission

Governor Numu opened the lower Highlands consultation workshop on the PNG Extractive Industries Transparency Commission Bill in Goroka on Monday, September 6th.

“As the Governor of Eastern Highlands Province, I am in support of transparency and accountability in the extractive sector,” he stated.

“The government must be accountable and it must make sure the developer is transparent in the extraction of our natural resources.

K2m road project for EHP

Governor Numu recently conducted a ground breaking ceremony of a K2 million road project at Yauna village.

It runs from Basis village in Goroka district through Yauna, Omena, Orumbafoe villages in the Unggai LLG and ends at the border of Foe village in Chuave, Simbu Province.

The 18km road project will be constructed by Nokondi Investment Ltd and Prodigy Construction Ltd.

This road project will serve the 7,000-plus population after being neglected for almost 40 years.

This road project initiative has brought the light of development to their very doorstep.

Man arrested, charged for social media abuse

The suspect, 25-year-old Livingstone Fontenu of Avani village, Henganofi, Eastern Highlands Province, was arrested and charged for spreading false and misleading information under section 11 of the Summary Offences Act Chapter 264.

Police are alleging Fontenu posted the comments on Facebook while referring to an election petition case now before the court between the Governor and Simon Sia, a candidate in the recent 2017 national general elections.
