Double voter wanted by court

A man who is in court over allegations he voted more than once during the one-day polling in Port Moresby is being wanted by the court for non-attendance.

The Waigani Committal Court today issued a warrant of arrest for Enga man, Erik Pps, after he failed to turn up in court against this month.

His case went for mention on Oct 19, however he was not present. Police prosecution then indicated serving his files on his next mention date.

Today magistrate Cosmas Bidar issued the warrant after he failed to turn up again.

Alleged double voter to be served

The case against the 25-year-old, from Tsak valley, has been before the Committal Court for the past three months, following his arrest on June 30.

Erik Pps first appeared in court on July 6.  His case went for mention today, however he was not present.

Police prosecution informed the court that his files will be served on him when he returns to court at the end of the month.

He was arrested at the 5 mile Ridge polling booth in the Moresby North–East electorate, and charged under section 100 of the Criminal Code, for voting more than he was entitled to.

MSG Observers note double voting

In a statement, the MSG said their observers came across reports of double voting by people who claimed to have voted twice after erasing ink used to mark voters’ fingers.

The statement also says observers witnessed some bold attempts at double voting that were foiled by polling officials and scrutineers.
